MOSES LAKE — The title of Moses Lake Distinguished Young Woman will go to one of four high school juniors at the annual program scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Moses Lake High School theater, 803 E. Sharon Ave.
The 2023 contestants are Sydney Garza, Addy Carlile and Torie Moser, all students at Moses Lake High School, and Madison Kultgen, who is taking classes at MLHS and Big Bend Community College through the Running Start program.
Program chair Riann Roylance said “FBI - Find Beauty Inside” is the theme for 2023.
All contestants are interviewed by the judges prior to the program, and the judges review each girl’s scholastic record. Participants also perform a routine to showcase their talents, and are evaluated on physical fitness and self-expression during the program.
Contestants are eligible for college scholarships, and all of the money raised by the participants goes back to them as scholarships, according to DYW program organizers.
Garza will perform a reading using American Sign Language. Carlile will perform a jazz dance solo, and Kultgen will have a vocal solo. Moser will play a piano solo.
The winner advances to the Washington State Distinguished Young Women program in August.

Road projects on hold for Labor Day weekend
MOSES LAKE — With Labor Day weekend dead ahead, drivers will be able to move freely about the state. Most road projects are on hold for the holiday weekend. Nobody will be working on the Hansen Road overpass on Interstate 90, but the lane restrictions that are in effect will continue through the end of the project.
