Turner, Hansen help lift Sandpoint over Timberlake

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 20, 2023 1:00 AM

TIMBERLAKE – The Bulldogs were able to break a six-game losing streak by defeating Timberlake, 14-7, on Tuesday, April 18 at Timberlake High School.

The Bulldogs’ offense was clicking as they scored at least two runs in six out of the seven innings of play. In the first, Drew Lehman started things off with a sacrifice fly; Kody MacDonald then doubled to right field to make it 2-0 Bulldogs.

Sandpoint only allowed one run through three innings thanks to Jesse Turner’s phenomenal pitching on the mound. Turner threw for three innings giving up just three hits, one walk, and one earned run while striking out six.

By the end of the fifth inning, the Bulldogs had built up a 10-3 lead. Gavin Day, Lucas Hansen, Jack Zimmerman, and Cody Newhart all batted in runs during the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Timberlake's Caden Robinette had a rather interesting day on the bump, he gave up 13 hits and 11 earned runs, but also amassed 11 strikeouts.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs on offense was Lucas Hansen who had a game-high three hits, including a triple. Five other Bulldogs contributed extra-base hits. Drew Lehman led the team with 3 RBIs, two of those coming from sacrifice flies. Kobe Barlow had three stolen bases; a total of eight Bulldogs stole a base in Tuesday’s 14-7 victory.

The Bulldogs will be back in action at War Memorial Field in a doubleheader versus Lakeland on Thursday, April 20.
