Six 7B girls wrestlers compete at USA 2023 Womens Wrestling National Championships

SPOKANE – 7B Girls Wrestling took six girls to compete at the USA Wrestling National Championships on Saturday, April 15.
Over 2,000 female wrestlers from all 50 states came to compete in this event; the divisions ranged from 8U to 23U. Idaho had 62 female wrestlers registered, the most the state has ever sent to a national tournament.
For Sandpoint, Emma Garman competed in the 17U division at 123 pounds while five other Sandpoint wrestlers competed in the 14U division: MacKenzie Donenfeld at 101 pounds, Leah Kerfoot and Hunter Edmondson at 110 pounds, Avery Inge at 126 pounds, and Honesty Christofferson at 137 pounds.
Christofferson took home a sixth-place national finish. This was the first national level tournament for 7B Girls Wrestling and only their second freestyle tournament.
“I received compliments for the effort our girls showed on the mat. As their coach, I could not have been more proud... It is pretty exciting to watch the state of Idaho talk about the movement of women's wrestling in Sandpoint. Our numbers have exploded this past year and we expect the rise to continue,” head coach Valerie Johansen said.
