COEUR d'ALENE — Tesh will "Reach for the Stars" on July 27.

Organizers are hoping the annual fundraiser that attracted more than 250 people and brought in nearly $120,000 last year will do just as well this time around.

"I couldn’t be more humbled at how generous and supportive our donors are, and how committed this community is to making a difference in the lives of people that most need it," said Marcee Hartzell, Tesh, Inc. CEO.

Tesh has been part of the local community since 1976, providing opportunities for youths and adults with disabilities.

For the past 15 years, Tesh held three major fundraisers annually: a spring benefit dinner, a fall luncheon and the Jan. 1 fun run.

Last year, Tesh combined the spring and fall events into one summer bash.

This year, it's set for 5:30 p.m. at Settlers Creek, 5803 W. Riverview Drive in Coeur d’Alene.

It will include a live and silent auction, cornhole, music, cocktail hour with local craft beers and wines and a gourmet wood-fired meal. Dessert will be prepared by the Village Bakery.

Thanks to donors, Tesh has made several upgrades to its home at the Industrial Park, including remodeled bathrooms and kitchen, new lighting and upgraded internet and technology capabilities.

Tickets are $100 and can be purchased at Teshinc.com. Prices increase after June 1 to $120.

There are also sponsor options available ranging from $500 to $7,000.

As if to prove it, signs on two kennel doors proclaim “I have been adopted! I’m currently waiting to be picked up by my new parents.” One is a timid black mastiff. But the shelter remains crowded. Monday, it has about 50 large dogs filling kennels, including in the new wing oped this year, and there is still a four-month waiting list with names of about 80 dogs that people are looking to surrender pets.

The Young Family’s Foundation launched about a year ago with a mission "to empower young, hardworking families to achieve the dream of home ownership. Even if a family saved $25,000, they would still be $19,000 short of the down payment needed to buy a $550,000 home, which is the median price in Kootenai County. It’s estimated that only about 20% of area households can afford to buy a home.
