Robert was born in Fresno, Calif., to Anthony Charles Imperatrice and Dorothy Margaret Luallin Imperatrice. He was a graduate of California State University Fresno, and did his master’s degree studies at the University of Southern California after moving to the Los Angeles area to teach biology and physiology at Eagle Rock High School, where he taught from 1957 until his retirement in 1989.
Robert served three years in the Army, and spent nine months in action during the Korean Conflict. He was privileged to take an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in April 2017.
He loved geocaching, hiking, backpacking, skiing, reading, singing and listening to classical music. With his wife, Jean, and/or his brothers, he backpacked much of the Sierras. Among many other treks, he and Jean hiked the entire John Muir Trail, including the diversion to the summit of Mt. Whitney.
Robert met his wife, Margaret Jean Irwin Imperatrice, when both were teaching at Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles. With many shared interests, they quickly became good friends and married June 19, 1982.
Robert was predeceased by his brothers, Bruce and Darrell Imperatrice, and his sister-in-law, Patricia Imperatrice. In addition to his wife, Jean, Robert is survived by his brother, Laurence Imperatrice, his sister, Emily Poulsen, and her husband, Richard, his sisters-in-law, Marlene and Bonnie Imperatrice, eight nieces and nephews and a number of grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.
