Sandpoint trades wins with Moscow in two close games on the road

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 27, 2023 1:00 AM
MOSCOW – Sandpoint was able to split two games against Moscow in a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday, April 25. Sandpoint lost the first game 2-0 and won the second game 2-1 in extra innings.
In Game 1, Sandpoint was unable to record a hit versus Moscow’s Levi Anderson who was one baserunner away from a perfect game. Jack Zimmerman spoiled Anderson’s hopes in the top of the seventh inning by drawing a walk on a 3-1 count. Anderson threw seven complete innings giving up zero hits, zero runs while recording 10 strikeouts.
For the Bulldogs, Jesse Turner also threw a quality start on the mound but was unfortunately stamped with the loss. Turner’s only blemish was a two-run home run by Butch Kiblen in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave the Bears the 2-0 victory. Turner went six innings giving up six hits, two runs, one walk, and recording five strikeouts.
In Game 2, Sandpoint found themselves in another close game with the Bears. Sandpoint struck first this time; Kody MacDonald was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of third inning, 1-0 Bulldogs.
The Bears tied the game in the bottom of fifth inning with an RBI single by Connor Isakon, 1-1.
The game would not be decided until extra innings when Kobe Barlow hit a line drive to left field to score Drew Lehman in the top of the eighth, 2-1 Bulldogs. Austin Dillon would close out the eighth inning for Sandpoint; pitching a phenomenal three and two-thirds innings giving up three hits, zero runs, and recording four strikeouts.
