I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | April 27, 2023 1:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry Farmers Market opens up for the season this Saturday, welcoming back the community after a long winter and offering a seed swap.

Community members are encouraged to bring their unwanted, excess, unused seeds and exchange them for others. A table full of all of the seed varieties will be available for visitors to take for gardening needs.

The table will be manned by the market’s special events coordinator Kasie Jones, who will have information on the seeds and assist as needed.

Market officials said the event is a great way to share the community’s resources and promote local growing.

Officials ask participants to place seeds in individual sealable bags or envelopes and label them for the exchange.

Back at the market this year is the weekly customer appreciation giveaway. Come to the market each week and fill out a ticket for the weekly drawing or an item or gift card from one of the vendors. At least one winner is named each week.

The market will also be graced with music provided by bagpiper Dan Parlane.

Cassidy Cossairt who runs advertising for the BFFM said market goers can expect new and familiar vendors at this year’s market.

Opening day for the Bonners Ferry Farmers Market is Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market runs from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October.

The BFFM is located right off the highway in downtown Bonners Ferry in the city park lot by the Visitor’s Center.
