Two people suffered injuries after a car drove off the edge of the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park on Thursday.

Park spokeswoman Gina Icenoggle said the wreck occurred about 4:30 p.m., Aug. 3. A visitor saw the car go over the road just before the west tunnel heading toward the loop. The witness of the crash went up to the loop to flag down a park ranger.

The car came to a stop about 200 feet down the embankment. One person was found trapped inside the vehicle and another outside of it, officials said.

The Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department extracted the person from the car. They were transported by ambulance out of the park.

The National Park Service, Martin City Fire Department and Three Rivers EMS also responded to the wreck.

Icenoggle said a portion of the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed for a few hours last night to clear the way for first responders. Officials closed it a second time on Friday, between 10 a.m. and early afternoon, so authorities could recover the vehicle.
