Sandpoint Rodeo comes to town today

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 4, 2023 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — From bucking broncos to wrestling steers to roping, there will be no shortage of action at the Sandpoint PRCA Rodeo today and Saturday.

The Sandpoint PRCA is held at the Bonner County Fairgrounds. On both days, the gates open at 6:30 p.m.; the first chute opens at 7:30 p.m. and events will last until roughly 10 p.m.

The Sandpoint rodeo will consist of events including, but not limited to, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, breakaway roping and team roping. Food trucks, vendors and a beer garden will be on site.

In addition to the rodeo, there will also be a Rascal Rodeo on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rascal Rodeo is an adaptive rodeo for cowboys of all ages with special needs.

Miss Sandpoint Rodeo, Maddie Gunter, has been busy all year long meeting with rodeo fans, sponsors, raising funds and connecting with other rodeos in the area. Gunther has been involved with the Bonner County 4-H program for 10 years and is living out her dream of being a rodeo queen; this year is her second year in the position.

The Sandpoint Rodeo Committee has been hard at work making sure the community will be able to enjoy a top-tier PRCA rodeo this weekend.

To purchase tickets, visit the Sandpoint Rodeo or Bonner County Fair official websites. Do not buy tickets from third-party resellers. Tickets are $17 for all and seating is first-come, first-served. Tickets will be available at the gate until sold out.
