PREP GOLF: SHS continues to excel; girls win team title at Lewiston Invite
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 5 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 18, 2023 1:00 AM
The Sandpoint High School girls golf team took home the team title at the Lewiston Invite at Quail Ridge in Clarkston, Wash., on Thursday.
Leading the way for the girls was Alexa Tuinstra and Taylor Mire, who both shot 73s, new personal bests for the juniors. The pair received co-medalist honors for finishing first overall. Demi Driggs also played a solid round of golf finishing with a score of 93. Regan Samuels did a great job in her first match of the year; Samuels finished with a score of 100.
On the boys side, all five Sandpoint golfers finished under 100 and within four strokes of each other. Due to their efforts, the team was able to overcome Post Falls, a team they were defeated by in their last matchup. Cooper Zimmerman led the way with a score of 91, both Micah Young and Logan Roos shot 92s, and Bode Eacret shot a 94 in his first varsity match of the year.
“Quail Ridge is a challenging course with lots of elevation, but we got the job done,” Deprez said. “I'm pleased with the results once again; we got to see some great competition on both sides.”
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, August 21 at the University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow.
