EPHRATA — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday evening that a semi had rolled over near the intersection of Beverly-Burke Road and Road 1-NE. Two people were trapped in the incident. No further information was available as of press time.

A hazardous waste collection event will be held Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grant County Public Works Complex at 124 Enterprise St. in Ephrata. Household hazardous waste will be accepted at the event. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/HAZGRANT.

Road N-NE between Road 7-NE and Road 6-NE will be closed through at least Sept. 6 due to scour – the removal of material beneath bridge footing – associated with one of the canal bridges there, according to a GCSO statement. The bridge has been inspected by structural engineers who have recommended keeping the roadway closed there until it has been reinspected Sept. 6. A determination on next steps will be made after the reinspection.

Two men went to the hospital after an accident on Road 5 NW west of Adams Road N. on Wednesday, according to a GCSO announcement. First responders report that Michael Hagadorn, 23, of Ephrata had stopped on the north shoulder of the road facing westbound and attempted to perform a U-turn. The maneuver put him in the path of Gerardo Santiago Francisco, 41, of Quincy, and caused an accident.

Hagadorn, who was driving a 2001 Honda CR-V suffered serious injuries and was transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center via ambulance and later transferred to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee via helicopter.

Francisco, who was driving a 2014 Honda Accord, was taken by car to Quincy Valley Medical Center to check on possible minor injuries.

GCSO will issue a notice of infraction for an illegal U-turn to Hagadorn.

MACC 911, Grant County Fire District 3, Protection 1 EMS and GCSO deputies responded to the incident.

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Police Department announced the Fire and Cop on Top fundraising event this Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the announcement, Moses Lake firefighters and police officers will be placed 10 feet off the ground on a scissor lift, and members of the community must donate to the event to get them down. The donations will go to Moses Lake and Othello Special Olympics.

From 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. the Washington State Patrol and Quincy Police Department will be at the event. After that, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Adams County firefighters will be at the event until 12:30 p.m. MLPD will be there from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., after which the Othello Police Department and Moses Lake Fire Department will be available until 3 p.m.

Event attendees will also be able to take pictures with firefighters and officers and squirt them with water guns.

The Moses Lake School District has announced that diplomas for the Class of 2023 may be picked up on weekdays during office hours at Moses Lake High School. Yard signs are also available through Friday if anyone would like theirs as a keepsake. The Digital Learning Center will be open for pickup from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 24 as well.
