Ken Smith, 83, of Athol, passed away Nov. 24, 2023. He was born in 1939 in Coeur d'Alene to Clarence and Florence Smith. He grew up in Coeur d'Alene and lived in the Portland/Vancouver area from the mid-1960s to the late 1990s, returning to the area and settling in Hayden.

A current member of the Comancheros Car Club, Ken enjoyed working on his and his nephew's cars and being in car shows around the area. He spent several decades in the Washington National Guard and also loved spending time with his family in the outdoors fishing, camping and hunting. Barbecuing for family and friends, attending Bible study, traveling and sharing stories were also favorite pastimes. He was ready for a good laugh! Always ready and willing to help, Ken had a very generous heart for all who needed it. He possessed a very strong work ethic and knew the value of a hard day's work providing for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven, wife Sharon of 56 years, and brother Harold Smith. He is survived by his wife, Kim, of five years, daughters Lori Ellyson (and Greg) of Vancouver, Wash., daughter Tracy Robinson (and Jim) of Richland, Wash., stepsons Aghvik Kagakb of Arizona and Ty Peterson of Athol, seven grandkids, three step grandkids, four great-grandkids and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a service at St. Luke's, 501 E. Wallace in Coeur d'Alene on Friday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.
