PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Coeur d'Alene races past Sandpoint

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Carter Rupp made all four of his 3-point baskets and scored all 12 of his points in the opening stanza as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings ran away from the Sandpoint Bulldogs 83-46 in the Inland Empire League opener for both schools Tuesday night at Viking Court.

Sophomore Caden Symons scored 19 points, and senior Logan Orchard tallied seven of his 18 points in the first quarter for Coeur d'Alene (4-0). Max Entzi added six of his 12 points in the opening eight minutes for the Vikings, who pressed for much of the game, forcing Sandpoint (1-2) into numerous turnovers and rushed shots.

Coeur d’Alene shots 67% (36 of 54) from the field, including 6 of 14 from 3-point range.

Parker Childs sank six 3s and scored a game-high 28 points for Sandpoint. The only other Bulldog to score was Emerik Jones, who added 18.

Coeur d’Alene is idle until Bellarmine Prep of Tacoma, Wash., visits on Dec. 16.

HARRISON FLATS — The host Warriors jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter and nearly notched their first victory since the 2018-19 season in their season opener under first-year coach Tom Tucker.

"What a fantastic game these young men played," Tucker said. "Cut our turnovers in half from our last outing and showed confidence in their basketball skills. They started out with a bang, but key players were sidelined by foul trouble. All my players played their hearts out; I started seeing a team work together."

Junior Chris Moore scored 15 points for Kootenai, which plays host to Highland of Craigmont on Friday.
