PREP WRESTLING: Timberlake starts strong, notches win over Lake City

SPIRIT LAKE — Sawyer Huston (98 pounds), Wyatt Carey (106), Jacob Rade (113), Logan Handlen (120), Paul Sundstrom (126) and Ayden Meehan (132) started the night with pins for 3A Timberlake in a 45-41 win over 5A Lake City in a dual on Tuesday at Timberlake High.

Timberlake won the first seven matches, then won again at 182 to clinch the dual.

“We started with six freshmen and sophomores and Timberlake came out and wrestled hard,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “It just felt like those younger kids weren’t quite ready for prime time. They’re working hard, but they just need more experience and time. We made a push, but just came up a little short.”

Carter Newby (113), Tanner George (120), Mason Rogers (126), Colton Tucker (145), Brock Armstrong (152), Jack Mayer (160), Alex Brown (195) and Rocco White (98) had pins for Coeur d’Alene in a 70-9 win over Timberlake.

Coeur d'Alene also defeated Moscow 67-13. Results from that dual were not available at press time.

Coeur d'Alene competes in the Inland Empire Classic on Friday and Saturday at Central Valley High in Spokane Valley.

Lake City competes in the West Valley duals tournament on Saturday at West Valley High.

Timberlake hosts Sandpoint on Dec. 13.

Lakeland dominates in 

home duals Tuesday

RATHDRUM — Kade Knopp (106 pounds), Carson Leonard (113), Justin Baxter (132) and Carter Vanek (285) won twice via pin for the Hawks, who swept the Knights of Spokane Valley and Eagles of Nine Mile Falls in a pair of duals at Lakeland High.

Lakeland beat Lakeside 73-9, then East Valley 76-12. The Hawks finished runner-up at the Van Tuinstra duals tournament last Saturday at Timberlake High.

Kellogg sweeps in CIL duals

with Priest River, St. Maries

ST. MARIES — Chase Scribner (126 pounds), Kolter Wood (132, 138) and Jaeger Hall (145) went unbeaten on the night as the Wildcats beat the Spartans and Lumberjacks in a pair of duals at St. Maries High.

Kellogg beat Priest River 54-27 and St. Maries 48-42. Priest River topped St. Maries 45-42 in the other dual.

Kelby Harvey (120), Zack Sotin (170) and Jackson Nantell went 2-0 for St. Maries.

All three teams will compete in the George Wild Invitational on Saturday at Kellogg High.
