Ada Grace Chandler, 99
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 5 months AGO
Grace Chandler was born June 23, 1924, in Marcus, S.D., to Bryon and Ada Walker. She passed away Nov. 7, 2023, at The Lodge at Bristol Heights. She was the second child in a family of six.
She spent the first 10 years of her life on a farm in South Dakota. She often told the story of riding horseback to school behind her older brother. When she lost her stocking cap, her brother would begrudgingly retrieve her cap, pull it down over her eyes and off they would go.
Her family moved from South Dakota to Hayden, Idaho, in 1934 during the Depression and dust storms that plagued the Midwest. Her family settled with other families from South Dakota in the Hayden area and maintained lifelong friendships. She often told of walking down Government Way when it was only a dirt road to visit her friends.
She married Kenneth Clark in 1941 and had one daughter, Kay. They later divorced and she married Cliff Chandler in 1954. They were married for 65 years until his death in 2019. Together, they built and sold many homes. She and Cliff loved square dancing, traveling to Arizona and riding bicycles wherever they traveled.
Her true joy was volunteering at the Friends Church, and Hospice Thrift Store, baking cinnamon rolls for the neighbors, playing cards at the Community Center and planting flowers in the spring.
At her request, there will be no services.
