It was a mixed bag of results for the Thompson Falls girls basketball team during a round robin tournament in Anaconda/Deer Lodge this past weekend.
The Lady Hawks began their weekend with a resounding 71-32 swamping of Valley Christian in Anaconda Friday afternoon.
They then journeyed up I-90 a short distance for a game with Flathead Valley Home School and were upset 45-35 by the home school crew Saturday afternoon in a game played in Deer Lodge.
In the Friday encounter with Valley Christian, the Lady Hawks took control big and early, exploding to a 21-2 lead after one quarter of play. The Hawks height and overall physicality overwhelmed VC from the beginning.
T Falls upped their lead to 39-10 by halftime and coasted to victory, their first of the 2023-24 season.
The Hawks added three more points to their lead in the third quarter when they outpointed the Lady Eagles 14-11, then sealed the victory with a seven point advantage in the final quarter of regulation.
The Lady Hawks had four players score in double figures, paced by Delany Gerhard’s 19 points. Annalyse Fairbank added 14 points, Addy deal chipped in 11 and forward Gabi Hannum contributed 10 in the T Falls win.
In their game versus Flathead Valley, Thompson Falls found the surprising home schoolers to be a determined group from the start.
Flathead jumped out to a hard-fought 9-7 advantage after one quarter of play. By halftime the Kalispell area team held a 15-12 lead.
In the second half, FV held off several T Falls rallies but did not allow the Lady Hawks to get closer than five points for the remainder of the game, using clutch shooting and timely free throws to hold onto their lead.
Flathead led 32-26 by the end of the third quarter, then outscored Thompson Falls 13-9 over the final eight minutes of play to secure the win.
The loss dropped the Lady Hawks to 1-2 on the year.
Next on the schedule for T Falls is a home game this Friday versus Anaconda. They then journey to Seeley Saturday for a game against the Lady Blackhawks.
