COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Area athletes set new personal bests to start indoor track season

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 1 month AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 13, 2023 1:00 AM

Teagun Holycross, Montana University Track & Field

Priest River’s Teagun Holycross recently opened the indoor track and field season at the Bobcat Preview held at Montana State University. Holycross ran a new personal best time of 6.85 seconds in the 60-meter dash and finished second out of 26 competitors.

Sandpoint alumni Grace Hicks, now a graduate student at Point Loma University (Division II), finished the 2023 season with 135 kills and 44 digs. Hicks had a season-high 15 kills in a win over Biola University; she reached the double-digit kill mark in four games this season. Point Loma finished the season with a 21-7 overall record, which included a 15-game win streak, and set a new NCAA-era program record for wins in a single season. Grace, along with her sister Gabby, also helped the Sea Lions win their first-ever PacWest Conference championship this year.

Hannah Davidson, Utah State Track & Field

Sandpoint’s Hannah Davidson recently ran a new personal best one mile time of 4:56.00 at the 2023 BYU December Invitational. She finished second out of 26 competitors and was just .19 seconds behind Taylor Lovell of BYU, who finished first.
