Hamdan to remain on
BSU coaching staff
Boise State football coach Spencer Danielson announced Wednesday that Bush Hamdan will be retained on staff as the team’s offensive coordinator while adding the title of associate head coach. Hamdan's new contract is subject to approval by the Idaho State Board of Education.
Hamdan’s deal, solidified this week, comes as the Broncos are in Los Angeles preparing for the Starco Foods LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk.
In his first season guiding the Bronco offense, Hamdan has led a unit that has had one of its most successful seasons in recent years. He guided the team to nine-straight games scoring 30 or more points, matching national semifinalists Michigan and Texas for the second-longest streak in the nation and the longest such streak for the Blue and Orange since 2011.
“I am very thankful to Coach Danielson for the opportunity to continue building what our staff has started over the past year,” Hamdan said. “Boise State holds a special place in my family’s heart and I have really enjoyed being back in the Treasure Valley. We have an incredible group of young men on this roster and I am eager to continue leading this group to championships and compete for Bronco Nation.”
He also directed an offensive unit that saw Ashton Jeanty awarded All-America honors as well as being named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. Jeanty ranks second nationally in yards from scrimmage (1,814) and all-purpose yards per game (164.91) while averaging 4.7 yards per run after contact and 14.4 yards after catch per reception, both of which lead the nation. The team’s rushing success, which ranks sixth nationally at 214.8 yards per game, was due in part to an offensive line that ranks 12th in the nation allowing only 1.08 sacks per game while converting 80% of fourth downs, a mark that ranks third nationally.
Hamdan began his coaching career as a student assistant with Colorado in 2009 and served as offensive intern with Maryland the following season. In 2011, he coached tight ends at Sacramento State on a staff that included former Bronco Andy Avalos as a graduate assistant.
