WSU announces 2024 football opponents

Washington State's 2024 schedule is highlighted by an early-season home matchup against Texas Tech, a neutral site game against Washington at Lumen Field in Seattle, and WSU’s lone conference game at Oregon State.

Next season’s slate has the Cougars playing six home contests, five road games and one neutral site game. In addition to the previously announced games, the Cougars will face six Mountain West opponents, three home and three road, as part of a football scheduling agreement with the conference. Matchups against Mountain West programs San Diego State and San Jose State, which were previously contracted, are not included in the six-game scheduling agreement. In all, WSU will play 11 nonconference games and one Pac-12 contest.

WSU opens the 2024 campaign hosting Portland State on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Gesa Field. The following week, Sept. 7, WSU welcomes Texas Tech to Gesa Field, marking the first time the Red Raiders have traveled to Pullman and the first meeting between the two teams since the 1964 season.

The Apple Cup game with Washington is Sept. 14 at the home of the Seattle Seahawks.

WSU will play host to San Jose State on Sept. 21.

The San Diego State contest, previously scheduled for Sept. 7, was moved to accommodate other matchups and the new date will be announced in conjunction with the remaining Mountain West dates.

WSU will travel to Oregon State on Saturday, Nov. 23.

While dates for the remaining contests will be announced by the Mountain West in the coming months, the opponents for those games have been released. Washington State will host three Mountain West schools in Utah State, Wyoming and Hawai’i as part of the scheduling agreement. The three road contests include Boise State, New Mexico and Fresno State.

Boise State announces football opponents for 2024 season.

Boise State learned the 2024 home and away designations of its seven conference football opponents plus its assignment in the league's new scheduling alliance with the remaining two members of the Pac-12 Conference.

Boise State will host Nevada, San Diego State, Utah State and Washington State to next fall while making trips to Hawai’i, San José State, UNLV and Wyoming.

The Broncos’ previously scheduled home game against Oregon State remains on the slate as a nonconference game in addition to the scheduling agreement. Games against Pac-12 members will not count toward the Mountain West standings.

Each Mountain West program will play seven league opponents, and play either Oregon State or Washington State within the model, with an even split of four home games and four away games among the eight contests.

The Mountain West Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, featuring the two conference teams with the highest conference winning percentages.

Additionally, Boise State announced that its 2024 nonconference game at Oregon will now take place the week of Sept. 7. The date for the home game against Oregon State, previously scheduled on that day, will be announced at a later date, along with dates for games in the scheduling agreement. The Broncos will also host Portland State at Albertsons Stadium the week of Sept. 21, ensuring six home games on The Blue next fall. Exact dates of nonconference games are subject to shift based on national television selections.

The date change for the game against Oregon comes as part of an amendment to the overall series with the Ducks. The previously-scheduled three-game series set for 2024, 2025 and 2026 has been converted to two guarantee games in which Oregon will pay Boise State a total of $2.6 million to visit Eugene in 2024 and 2026. The game in 2025 will no longer be played. Boise State will have additional announcements about the 2025 schedule in the coming months.

The 2024 Mountain West football membership includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San José State, UNLV, Utah State, and Wyoming.

United Soccer League releases schedule for League One and Spokane Velocity FC

The first-year Spokane Velocity FC will play every team in the USL League One at least twice in the 2024 schedule released Thursday by the United Soccer League.

The club’s season will include more than 30 total games including regular season and a new in-season cup competition.

The schedule reflects 15 league matches — regular season and League One cup competition — to be held in ONE Spokane Stadium. USL Spokane is scheduling a friendly match with a non-league opponent to round out the 16 home matches in the season ticket package.

The Velocity will begin the season with an away game against the Greenville Triumph on March 9 before hosting the Richmond Kickers at home on March 16. The regular season will conclude on Oct. 26, when Spokane Velocity FC hosts One Knoxville SC, with the post-season tournament to follow.

New this season is the League One cup competition, which will incorporate prize money and trophies with matches held throughout the season. For cup play, the League is divided into three groups of four teams each, with the Spokane Velocity FC playing in the West group alongside Union Omaha, Northern Colorado and Central Valley. Each team will play one another twice in addition to playing two matches against non-group teams. Teams will earn three points for a win, one point for a draw (in regulation time), and an extra point for winning a penalty shootout. Group play will determine the three teams that qualify for the knockout round (semifinals and final). The fourth team will be the non-group winning team that scores the most goals, encouraging attacking play.

Most Velocity home matches will be played on Saturdays at 6 p.m., with some exceptions when game times are announced. There are two Sunday games, on May 19 against Forward Madison SC, and June 23 against Lexington Sporting. There will be a Tuesday night home match, on Aug. 13 against Northern Colorado, and a match on Wednesday, Sept. 4 against Omaha.
