PREP BASKETBALL: Strock, Tomco combine for 40 in Sandpoint girls win over Lewiston

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 16, 2023 6:40 PM

SANDPOINT – Sandpoint got out to an early lead and didn’t look back as the Bulldogs defeated Lewiston, 58-42 in an Inland Empire league match at Les Rogers Court on Saturday.

Senior Aliya Strock and freshman Jordyn Tomco both had a game-high 20 points for the Bulldogs. Tomco, who started in the absence of Karlie Banks (ankle injury), also had six rebounds and a team-high four steals in the contest.

Freshman Brecken Mire also had a standout game for the Bulldogs; she had 10 points, and added a team-high four assists and eight rebounds.

Lewiston’s Addison McKarcher posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Bengals.

“I’m really excited for the girls because we’re now 3-0 in the league and those wins have all come against 5A schools,” Love said. “I thought we played well for 32 minutes. We were missing Karlie today due to an ankle injury so some roles changed a little bit, but everyone stepped up. Aliya had a great game – and then add in Jordyn’s scoring, Brecken hit double-digits – it was a great team win.”

Sandpoint (7-1, 3-0) will play Kellogg at home on Tuesday.
