Good vibes are the name of the games at Plains High school this year as it relates to sports.

After posting their first wins (3) in more than two years on the football field, and having a successful volleyball season, Plains athletics appear to be headed in the right direction.

To wit, the boys basketball team upped its season record to 3-2 with a pair of home court wins this past week over Hot Springs (52-27) and Alberton (67-30).

They have just one game remaining on the 2023 portion of their schedule, a conference game versus Western 7B foe Troy, in Troy tonight (Tuesday, Dec 19).

Plains got the week rolling with the big win over Hot Springs. The Horsemen galloped past the Savage Heat in the first quarter and took a 16-5 lead at the end of the first eight minutes of play.

It was a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

By halftime, the Horsemen had built a 32-9 lead over the Heat, who have struggled to find their rhythm in the early going.

Plains used a balanced attack during the game, stifling Hot Springs with an aggressive defense while at the same time getting scoring from nine different players on the night.

The Horsemen continued to stretch their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Plains 12-5 to grab an insurmountable 44-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Hot Springs fought back in the final quarter, outscoring Plains 13-8, but it was no where near enough to overcome the Plains lead.

Zyden Allen led the Horsemen with 13 points, while teammate Anaya Loberg added 11 to the Plains cause.

They continued their week of large victory margins this past Thursday night, also at home, with a dominating 67-30 victory over Alberton.

Plains overwhelmed the Panthers with a 30-points first quarter outburst and took a 30-6 lead heading into quarter number two.

By halftime, the lead had grown to 49-18 and wholesale substitutions were the name of the game against the visitors.

Plains added 10 points to their lead in the third quarter and held a 63-22 advantage with one quarter to go.

Plains guard Darren Standeford had an outstanding game against Alberton, erupting for a game-best 28 points.  He was joined in double-figure scoring by Allen, who tossed in 12.  A total of seven Horsemen scored during the win.
