Every now and then, its called a cycle in small town basketball, graduation can be a not so good thing.

Getting a diploma is tops. But when graduation has claimed a sizable part of your basketball team from last year, that can be a problem.

Such was the case for the Superior Bobcats boys who lost a pair of games this past week, falling to Seeley on the road, 66-29 Friday. They then came home and faced the always strong Charlo, who roughed up the home team 64-27.

The two teams came out swinging in the first quarter of what was a back and forth struggle. By the end of the first eight minutes of play, Seeley held a razor-thin 15-13 lead.

But the Blackhawks got their potent offense cranked up in the second quarter, out-pointing the Cats 12-2 to take a 27-15 lead at the half. They added eight points to their lead in the third quarter, giving them a 48-28 advantage with one quarter to play.

The Hawks turned it up a notch in the final period, blowing past the Cats 18-1 to secure the 66-29 win.

Seeley’s Blake Irwin led all scorers with 22 points on the night, while teammate Jaalen Kauffman threw in 13 for the home team.

Sophomore Gannon Quinlan had a team high 11 points Superior, who also got 10 from Owen Doyle.

Saturday night Charlo blew into town and grabbed a quick 18-6 by the end of the first quarter. The two teams played even most of the second quarter, giving Charlo a 32-18 halftime lead.

The Viking outscored Superior 32-9 in the second half to nail down their fourth win of the year.

Quinlan once again was high points man for the Bobcats with 10 points.

Charlo was led by the game best 26 points from 6-6 post Wesley Anderson. The Vikings also got 21 from point guard Hayden Hollow in their win.

Next on the schedule for Superior is a road game this Thursday (Dec 21) to Darby to take on the Tigers. The Cats come back to Superior the next evening for a match up with Eureka.
