Thompson Falls teams split weekend games

A split against two good teams is not perfect but it ain’t bad.

Both Thompson Falls boys and girls teams found that out this past weekend when each went 1-1 against Seeley and Anaconda.

The got things underway Friday night when they hosted the Anaconda Lady Copperheads in an early season preview of the Western B basketball clash in T Falls.

The Copperheads bolted out to a 26-13 lead after one quarter of play before T Falls settled down in the second quarter.

At halftime, Anaconda held a 29-18 lead.

They would never trail again.

Anaconda outscored T Falls 20-6 in the fthird quarter and 15-8 in the final quarter to secure the 64-32 over the Lady Hawks.

The Copperheads got a game-best 29 points to improve their early season mark to 5-0. Gabi Hannum led T Falls with 12 points as the Hawks dropped to 1-2 in official games. Saturday night the Lady Hawks took out their loss to Anaconda on Seeley, thrashing the Blackhawks 64-34.

Thompson Falls held a 15-7 lead after the first quarter of play, then doubled that count in the second quarter. They entered halftime with a 30-14 advantage. It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Hawks upped their lead to 42-17 with one quarter to play.

They added four points to their lead on their way to the lopsided victory. Three T Falls playes scored in double figures for the game, led by Hannum’s 15 points. Solveig Nygaard added 11 points and Addy Deal chipped in 10 for the Hawks.

The win over Seeley upped T Falls’ season mark to 2-2, while Seeley fell to 2-2.

The opponents were the same and the outcome similar for the Thompson Falls boys.

Friday night they hooked up with Anaconda in T Falls and were beaten 58-37.

The next night, T Falls beat Seeley 57-40 to earn the split.

Against Anaconda Friday night, the Blue Hawks fell behind 15-3 after one quarter of play. However, the Hawks fought back in the second quarter and trimmed five points off the Blackhawks’ lead to make it 21-14 at the half.

Anaconda reapplied the pressure in the second half and steadily pull away from the home team, outscoring them 19-11 in the third quarter and 18-12 over the final eight minutes of play.

T Falls junior forward Bryson LeCoure led the home team with 18 points on the night. Seeley’s River Hurley poured in 29 points to lead alll scorers.

After the loss Friday night, the Blue Hawks were looking to right the ship and did so against Seeley.

T Falls took a narrow 11-9 first quarter lead, then battled the visitors even up at 15-each in the second quarter, preserving Seeley’s two point lead.

The second half was a different story as the Blue Hawks cranked it up and outscored Seeley 16-8 in the third quarter to grab a 42-32 lead with one quarter to play.

The Blue Hawks duplicated their third quarter advantage in the fourth quarter to improve their season mark to 2-3

LeCcoure poured in 27 points to lead all scorers.

Next up for both T Falls; teams is a pair of home games, this Thursday versus Deer Lodge, and this Friday vs Loyola.
