Open gym basketball: Open basketball, sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department, will be offered again this year during Christmas Break at Woodland Middle School.
Dates are Dec. 27 and 28, and Jan. 3 and 4.
Times are: Grades 6-8, 10 a.m. to noon; and grades 3-5, noon to 2 p.m.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Photo by DARCY WEAVER The Coeur d'Alene Warriors third grade AAU boys basketball team won its division over the weekend at the Spokane Hoopfest 2023 Santa Slammer Winter Classic basketball tournament at The Warehouse in Spokane. The Warriors opened with a 35-23 win over Grindtime on Saturday, then lost 29-21 to the Sandpoint Future 3B, but ultimately was seeded No. 1 going into bracket play. Sunday morning the Warriors beat the Liberty Knights 32-24, then beat No. 2-seeded Grindtime in the championship game 44-29. Photo by KARI HYNES The Thorns North FC 11 Girls Academy soccer team returned to the field following a month's hiatus to continue its DPL league play last weekend with games against Seattle Celtic G11 DPL and Mt. Rainier FC G11 DPL. The weekend started with a 4-1 win against Apex 2011 Navy DPL. Kylie Lorona started the game off with a goal on an assist from Presley Moreau. Olivia Nusser, Presley Moreau and Constance Ovendale (pictured, with ball) followed up with goals of their own. In Sunday's game forwards Evelyn Haycraft and Presley Moreau each scored a goal for the Thorns in their 2-2 draw against Albion SC Idaho G11 DPL. The girls will continue their DPL league games in January when they travel to Seattle to face Mt. Rainier FC G11 and Seattle Celtic G11.
