Libby Middle High School students recently spent a day giving thanks to the community that supports them before embarking on their holiday break.

According to school counselor Mandi Foss, it’s the fourth or fifth year the school has hosted its “Gratitude Day.”

“It gives the kids a chance to continue their volunteer efforts in the community as well as show their appreciation for the support they receive from folks in the Libby area,” Foss said.

Among the many things, students did was making and donating several blankets to the women’s shelter, delivering 80 pairs of socks to the Libby Care Center, 600 bookmarks to students in the Libby Elementary School, thank you cards and treats to all the booster club donors.

“Our booster club supports all activities at the school, so their contributions are critical to what we do,” said Nik Rewerts, school activities director.

In addition, students in the shop class made more than 80 toys for each preschool and Head Start student. Students also spent time making crafts to give as gifts to their parents.

“We had 70% attendance today, which is great!” Foss said. “Everyone that participated gets in free to tonight’s basketball games. This year is the first time we’ve held it in the gym which is nice because it allows everyone to get together and share in the fun.”
