Man who skipped sentencing gets prison time
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 year, 1 month AGO
COEUR d’ALENE — A Washington man who went on the lam for more than two years after pleading guilty to aggravated battery, possession of methamphetamine and driving under the influence received a prison sentence last week.
The charges stem from August 2020, when 29-year-old Jacob W. Endicott reportedly ran a red light while drunk and drove into a group of people standing outside a Coeur d’Alene bar. Prosecutors said Endicott fled the scene in his vehicle but was stopped by police and arrested in Coeur d’Alene.
Police reportedly found methamphetamine in Endicott’s wallet. Breath samples provided by Endicott revealed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.17 and 0.18.
Endicott was required to submit to drug and alcohol testing as a condition of his release after posting bail.
After Endicott pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2021, District Judge Fred Gibler revoked his bail and ordered him to report to jail because he had not complied with the court-ordered testing, according to the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office.
Endicott did not report to jail, however. He was booked into the Kootenai County jail in October, more than two years after he was supposed to be sentenced.
District Judge Rich Christensen sentenced Endicott this week to seven years in prison for aggravated battery with parole eligibility after three years, as well as to four years in prison for possession of methamphetamine with parole eligibility after two years. Endicott received credit for time served for the misdemeanor DUI charge.
