PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lake City advances to Peak semifinals

SNOHOMISH, Wash. — Lake City advanced to the semifinals of the Top of the Peak Holiday Tournament with a 58-46 win over King’s High of Seattle at Glacier Peak High on Wednesday night.

Lake City, which has won seven straight games, faces Emerald Ridge of Puyallup tonight at 8:15 in the semifinals.

Emerald Ridge defeated Glacier Peak 44-25 in their opening round game.

IDAHO FALLS — Senior Lila Kiefer scored a team-high 17 points for the Hawks, who fell short to the Thunder in an opening round game in the Navy Bracket of the East Idaho Holiday Shootout at Skyline High.

SPOKANE VALLEY — The Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter, but fell short to the Bulldogs in the West Valley Tournament.

“We played hard in the fourth quarter, but the first three were our worst of the season,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We fought hard and made a game of it. It was a tough one, but hopefully we can learn some lessons from this game.”

Payton Young and Diana Nelson scored nine points each for Timberlake (8-3), which faces Toppenish, Wash., today at 5 p.m.

ROCKFORD, Wash. — Senior Emily Coe had 13 points, 10 rebounds and six steals for the Wildcats, who pulled away in the second half to beat the Viking JV in the Greg Larson Memorial Tournament at Freeman High.

“In the first half, we were a little discombobulated,” said Kellogg coach Jana Nearing, whose team was tied 24-24 before outscoring Coeur d’Alene 17-5 in the third quarter. “We had a strong third quarter and our seniors really stepped up and got us going.”

Senior Macy Jerome had 14 points, seven rebounds and eight assists and senior Dani Schillereff had 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Kellogg (6-4), which faces Freeman today.

Freshman Sophie Holecek scored 15 points for the Coeur d’Alene JV.
