Corvallis sweeps Libby in varsity basketball action

The Libby girls and boys basketball teams each lost to Corvallis on Dec. 22.

In the girls game, the Lady Loggers trailed by just three points at halftime, 18-15, but the Blue Devils won the third quarter, 13-4, to take control and win 44-33.

Madison Vincent led Libby with 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Libby trailed 12-9 midway through the second quarter before a 6-0 run put the Lady Loggers up 15-12. Morgan Hayes scored before Kaydence Stanek made a steal and hit a 3-pointer to make it 14-12. Vincent was fouled with 1:19 left and hit one free throw to make it 15-12.

Corvallis ended the quarter with a 6-0 run to make it 18-15 at halftime.

Vincent’s long jumper early in the third quarter made it 18-17, but Corvallis used a 13-2 run to take a 31-19 lead after three quarters.

Another basket by Vincent early in the fourth made it a 10-point game, but the Lady Loggers never got any closer.

After Vincent’s 16 points, Hayes scored four points, Ellie Andreesen and Kaydence Stanek each had three, Bergen Fortner, Addy Gilden-Vincent and Peyton Waggoner had two each and Rachel Kosters had one.

The Lady Loggers host Bigfork on Thursday, Jan. 4.

In the boys game, Corvallis led 18-9 after one quarter and 38-23 at halftime on the way to a 63-39 win.

Tyler Andersen led the Loggers with 21 points, including  three 3-pointers. Ryan Beagle was next with eight points, Cy Williams scored seven, Tristan Andersen had two and Chayse Hartley had one.

The Loggers play at Bigfork on Thursday, Jan. 4.
