PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lake City's Zufelt, Waddington combine for 50

POST FALLS — Junior Sophia Zufelt hit six 3-pointers and poured in 30 points as the Lake City Timberwolves clinched the No. 2 seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament with a 77-61 victory over the Post Falls Trojans in the regular season and Inland Empire League finale for both teams Tuesday night.

Junior Avery Waddington added 20 points for Lake City (17-4, 7-2 IEL), which will play host to No. 3 seed Post Falls (17-4, 5-4) in the first round of regionals on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

“We went in trying to focus on Waddington and Zufelt, and we weren’t aggressive enough on either of them,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said. “We’ve got to have a different approach on Friday.”

Zufelt hit three 3s and scored 13 of her points in the third quarter.

Capri Sims led Post Falls with 25 points, and Brooklyn Brennan added 17.

The Trojans lost junior Letti Asper, a key inside player, to an ankle injury in the game’s first minute. Her status for Friday’s game is to be determined, Hall said.

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Teagan Colvin scored 20 points, senior Madi Symons added 19 for the Vikings, who overwhelmed the Bengals in an Inland Empire League game at Viking Court.

Junior Madison Mitchell scored 17, senior Kendall Omlin 15 on senior night for Coeur d’Alene (19-2, 9-0 IEL).

Addison McKarcher scored 12 points for Lewiston (6-14, 2-7).

The teams will meet again at Viking Court in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

WALLACE — Talk about a turnaround.

Two weeks after losing by 34 points at Lakeside, Wallace beat the Knights by 32 points at Kirby Krulitz Court to tie Lakeside for the Scenic Idaho Conference title.

After the game, Lakeside won a coin flip, and will be the No. 1 seed to the 1A Division I District 1 tournament next week at North Idaho College.

Wallace (12-6, 3-1 SIC) will play No. 3 seed Genesis Prep on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a loser-out game. The winner plays Lakeside (11-6, 3-1) next Thursday at 7 for the district’s lone berth to state.

Britany Phillips scored 14 of her 21 points in the first half for Wallace, and Kylee Phillips added 12 points.

Kyleigh Wolfe scored seven points for Lakeside.

Wallace plays host to Mullan on Thursday.

EDWALL, Wash. — Chelsey Cate and Symone Pilgrim scored 21 points each and the visiting Royals, despite missing two starting guards, completed an undefeated Mountain Christian League season in their regular season finale.

Cate had 11 rebounds and three blocked shots, Pilgrim 11 boards and seven assists for North Idaho Christian (29-2, 12-0 MCL). Belle Sanwald added 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Rylee Overturf had 14 points and three blocked shots.

Rebekah Hendrick of Christian Heritage led all scorers with 24 points.

North Idaho Christian returns to action Feb. 10-11 at the Mountain Christian League tournament, hosted by The Oaks in Spokane Valley.
