DILLON, MONT. – Three Othello football players were announced as a part of the University of Montana Western’s 2023 signing class on Wednesday. David Julian Alegria, Sonny Asu and Giovanni Love will be heading to Dillon, Montana this fall, according to a release by the school.
"Our staff has worked incredibly hard to put together what we believe is an excellent 2023 recruiting class,” UMW Head Coach Ryan Nourse said in the release. “We have been strong up front on both sides of the ball and this group adds talent and depth to both our offensive and defensive line units. Every year we look to add playmakers with speed and athleticism at the skill positions. This class has addressed that with an excellent group of competitive guys on both offense and defense. I feel strongly that in the near future this crew will prove to be a great class of Bulldogs."
Alegria joins the Bulldogs as a defensive end, having also played running back during his time with the Huskies most recent season. The senior was a three-time all-Central Washington Athletic Conference defensive end, and also plays basketball for OHS.
Asu was the CWAC Offensive Player of the Year this past fall and was named to the all-CWAC list three times during his Othello career. In three varsity seasons, Asu amassed 2,873 all-purpose yards. The senior joins the Bulldogs as a defensive back, having also competed in track and basketball for Othello.
Love, who joins UMW as a defensive lineman, helped pave the way for the Othello rushing attack as a back-to-back first-team all-CWAC offensive lineman during his junior and senior seasons. Love was also a second-team all-CWAC defensive lineman during the 2022 season, and wrestled and participated in track for the Huskies.
The trio of Huskies was among 21 players from Washington in the Bulldog’s 2023 recruiting class.
