Post Falls to honor Ryan Wood at Thursday wrestling dual
Ryan Wood, who is retiring from a 23-year career as a wrestling coach, official and representative, is scheduled to be honored as this year’s Post Falls Wrestling Legend at Post Falls High’s dual match against visiting Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.
The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Wood coached seven years at St. Maries, posting a dual record of 68-13 with four district titles and three league dual titles. He coached 22 state placers, and St. Maries placed third at state in 1994. Wood was named North Idaho Coach of the Year in wrestling in 1994 and ‘99.
Wood has refereed high school wrestling for 23 years and college for 15 years. During the past 12 years he has served in various leadership positions with the district and state, including four years as a North Idaho officials rep, six years on the District 1 evaluating committee, four years teaching at the North Idaho rules clinic, and 12 years as the District 1 commissioner and rules interpreter.
Wood has been chosen as the outstanding official at many tournaments, including the prestigious Rollie Lane tourney three times — in 2012, 2018 and 2023.
