Rebecca 'Becky' J. Essary, 74
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 10 months AGO
Rebecca Jane “Becky” Essary of Hayden, Idaho passed away Feb. 4, 2023, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
She was born Oct. 29, 1948, in Tulsa, Okla., the daughter of Roger Ted Abel and Wanda Louise Herman Abel. She married Richard William Essary on April 12, 2015, and resided in Hayden, Idaho.
As a young girl, Becky lived with her parents in Libya, but for the most part grew up and resided in Lafayette, La., where she was an active member of the Riverside Church of Christ. After high school, Becky attended Oklahoma University, Louisiana State University and Murray State University in Kentucky.
After marrying Richard, Becky moved to Hayden, Idaho, where they resided until her untimely death.
Becky worked as a registered nurse for Our Lady of Lords Hospital until she retired from the hospital. Upon retirement, she started a free-standing diabetic clinic, as she was a certified diabetic specialist.
Becky has a heart for local and foreign missions, and would often collect and donate many items needed for the mission effort in Zimbabwe and India. Becky even encouraged Richard to participate in the foreign mission’s program. Together, they were a team who greatly added to the successes Riverside Church of Christ experienced on the mission field.
Some of Becky‘s hobbies included fishing, reading and gardening. Watching the deer and her chickens in her backyard brought Becky great joy. Finally, she gave Richard written instruction and I quote “Don’t let my cat out." Becky’s cat, 'miss Priss,' was a favorite companion.
After moving to Hayden, Becky became an active member of the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ in Idaho, where she served until God called her home.
Becky is survived by her spouse of eight years, Richard William Essary of Hayden, Idaho, and her brother, Russel Abel of Louisiana.
Charitable donations can be made to Dalton Gardens Church of Christ in Dalton, as well as Riverside Church of Christ in Lafayette, La.
Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Becky’s online memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com and sign her guestbook.
