3A DISTRICT 1 WRESTLING: Timberlake claims first district title since 2020

SPIRIT LAKE — Timberlake won its first district title since 2020 with nine individual champions during Thursday’s 3A District 1 championships at Timberlake High.

Wyatt Carey (98 pounds), Paul Sundstrom (120), Ayden Meehan (126), Cayden Knight (132), Cole Hanely (138), Jonathan Hansen (152) and Luke Schell (182) punched their tickets to state with district championships for Timberlake. Isaiah Schultz (220) and Zachary Schultz (170) advanced with byes as the only competitors in that weight class.

The district, down of Timberlake and Bonners Ferry after Kellogg and Priest River dropped to 2A this year, advanced the top two in each weight class to the state 3A tournament starting next Thursday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
