David Hoyt Herston, 78, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully Feb. 13, 2023.
Born Dec. 16, 1944, in Columbia, Tenn., he was the son of the late Hoyt Rutledge Herston and the late Minnie Wynell Jennings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Tom Ritchie, brother Wade Ritchie and sister Shelia Ritchie.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Herston of Post Falls, Idhao, son Richard Wayne Herston of St. Robert, Mo., sister Wanda Deringer and her husband, Bill Deringer, of Carlsbad, N.M. and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
He began working in El Paso, Texas, as an apprentice electrician in 1963 until 1967, when he became a journeyman electrician with Nelson Electric Company, and held the positions of head electrical estimator/operations manager until 1990, when he changed jobs and became vice president in charge of estimating and field engineering with High Point Electric until 2001. He was then employed as a manager of estimating and engineering with Garrick Electrical & Mechanical Inc. until 2005, when he retired and moved to Rathdrum, Idaho. He worked as a bus driver for the Lakeland Joint School District transportation department in Rathdrum until 2009, when he retired for good. David became an Eagle Scout at age 17, served as president of the Hanks High School Boosters, the Camelot Town Homes Association, and El Paso Contractor Bid Clearing House Depository in El Paso.
