COEUR d’ALENE — Law enforcement is investigating a false report of an active shooter at Lake City High School, which put the school into lockdown this morning.
Coeur d’Alene police received a report of a possible active shooter at the school around 9:30 a.m. It was one of several similar active shooter reports made at schools throughout Idaho on Wednesday.
“The information we have now suggests the threat came from outside our area and there wasn’t ever a threat to anyone at LCHS,” the Coeur d’Alene Police Department said in a news release.
A school resource officer was on scene at the time of the report and all available officers from surrounding agencies immediately responded to LCHS, according to a news release. Within two minutes, additional officers arrived with more on the way.
After checking the school, police said the situation was safe. They cleared the scene shortly after 10 a.m.
Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield said several schools were impacted today by threats of violence, and that the threats do not appear to be valid.
State Department of Education staff have been in touch with districts and will continue to stay apprised of the situation, she said.
"I’m thankful for the quick action from school administrators and law enforcement to ensure the safety of students in the affected schools," she said.

As if to prove it, signs on two kennel doors proclaim “I have been adopted! I’m currently waiting to be picked up by my new parents.” One is a timid black mastiff. But the shelter remains crowded. Monday, it has about 50 large dogs filling kennels, including in the new wing oped this year, and there is still a four-month waiting list with names of about 80 dogs that people are looking to surrender pets.

The Young Family’s Foundation launched about a year ago with a mission "to empower young, hardworking families to achieve the dream of home ownership. Even if a family saved $25,000, they would still be $19,000 short of the down payment needed to buy a $550,000 home, which is the median price in Kootenai County. It’s estimated that only about 20% of area households can afford to buy a home.
