COEUR d’ALENE — It was ugly.
But, the final three quarters, that was something to build on.
Freshman Solei Elletson scored 19 points for North Idaho College in a 59-50 win over the Community Colleges of Spokane in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Rolly Williams Court.
NIC (14-11, 8-6 NWAC) trailed 19-4 after the first quarter, but outscored Spokane 42-17 in the second and third quarter to build a 46-36 lead.
“Spokane came out ready to play,” NIC coach Nathan Covill said. “We were 1 for 12 in the first quarter and switched to a zone and played well. We were 1 for 10 in the fourth quarter, but 10 for 10 from the line. Solei played aggressive and did what she needed to get to the line.”
NIC trails Big Bend by one game for fourth in the East Region and will travel to Yakima Valley (9-15, 6-8) on Saturday.
“We’ve got to take care of them and have a good response on the road,” Covill said. “We’ve been struggling with traveling and playing the same day lately, so hopefully we can take care of business.”
Kennedy McCorkle scored 16 points for Spokane (6-16, 6-9).
