COEUR d'ALENE — Colton Fulwiler is not giving up hope of finding his brother, missing since Monday.

He estimates he has covered nearly 20 miles of rugged terrain from Twin Lakes, working his way back toward Rathdrum searching for him.

"I'm just going to continue to make my search bigger," Fulwiler said.

Jacob Fulwiler, 35, has been missing since walking away from his Twin Lakes home early Monday.

Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ryan Miller said a search for Fulwiler was scheduled to begin Thursday morning, but was canceled due to freezing conditions.

He said KCSO is working on scheduling another search.

Jacob Fulwiler has battled through issues, had recently lost his job and was feeling down, Colton Fulwiler said of his brother.

Jacob Fulwiler was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. His father posted his bail money later that night and he was released, Colton Fulwiler said.

Monday morning, Colton Fulwiler and his father saw Jacob at his home and went to retrieve his impounded truck.

When Jacob Fulwiler's mother went to check on her son at his home near Seasons Road off Highway 41, he was gone. He did not take a vehicle. It is unknown what he was wearing.

Colton Fulwiler said a handgun was missing from the home and a note written by Jacob was found in the house.

"It wasn't a good note," Colton Fulwiler said.

Colton Fulwiler said family and friends have helped him search the area the past few days, but there has been no sign of his brother.

He has distributed missing person posters and KCSO has posted missing person notices as well.

Colton Fulwiler estimated he has covered 18 miles of mountains, brush, hills and ditches in cold conditions around Twin Lakes on foot, but there has been no sign of Jacob.

Still, he hopes his brother, a father of three, might have gotten a ride somewhere and is with friends or spending time alone.

"We hope someone has seen him," Colton Fulwiler said.

Jacob Fulwiler is about 6 feet tall and about 190 pounds. He has blonde hair and green eyes.

Anyone with information about Jacob Fulwiler is asked to contact Detective Zirker, 208-446-2257 or [email protected].

"We want him home, we want him safe," Colton Fulwiler said.

As if to prove it, signs on two kennel doors proclaim “I have been adopted! I’m currently waiting to be picked up by my new parents.” One is a timid black mastiff. But the shelter remains crowded. Monday, it has about 50 large dogs filling kennels, including in the new wing oped this year, and there is still a four-month waiting list with names of about 80 dogs that people are looking to surrender pets.

Nonprofit foundation helps family become homeowners for first time

The Young Family’s Foundation launched about a year ago with a mission "to empower young, hardworking families to achieve the dream of home ownership. Even if a family saved $25,000, they would still be $19,000 short of the down payment needed to buy a $550,000 home, which is the median price in Kootenai County. It’s estimated that only about 20% of area households can afford to buy a home.
