COEUR d'ALENE — Entries with the spirit of the Irish are wanted for the 18th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade set for March 18 in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

The event is being put on by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association in partnership with Idaho Central Credit Union.

It traditionally attracts leprechauns, Guinness beer can costumes, Irish wolf hounds, marching bands, dancers, floats and music with an Irish theme and plenty of green.

The parade theme is “Shamrocks & Shenanigans." It starts at 3 p.m. at Eighth and Sherman and travels west down Sherman Avenue to First Street.

This year's grand marshal will be Doug Eastwood, who served as the city of Coeur d'Alene's parks director more than three decades before retiring and is a board member of the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation.

Karlynn King of All Things Irish will be the Irish Colleen, while Kerri Thoreson of Post Falls will be the Irish Woman of the Year.

A few hundred people, many wearing green coats, shirts and hats, come out to watch about 30 parade entries that showcase the luck of the Irish.

Coeur d'Irish, an Irish-themed party put on by Coeur d'Alene Rotary Club, is scheduled March 17 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. It will feature Irish bagpipes, dancers, food, whiskey and live music.

All funds raised will support Coeur d’Alene Rotary Club’s community service grants and projects throughout Coeur d’Alene, along with the club’s international service projects.

Tickets are $50 general admission and $125 VIP seating. For tickets, bit.ly/3SIisgN.

Mortgage rates above 6% slowing sales

"Historically, interest rates are tied to oil prices so as we see the prices of oil increase, we may see an increase in interest rates," he said. "The rates seem to be a driving factor. As soon as they dip below 6% we see a jump in activity and as soon as they go up things seem to cool off a bit."
