The Mineral County Performing Arts Council was formed in 2007 and sponsored a set of informal concerts to immediate public enthusiasm.

In 2008, MCPAC established itself as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit and initiated performance seasons consisting of at least five events running from September to August of each year.

In 2012, MCPAC became the lead organization for continuation of an over 30 year association with Montana Shakespeare in the Parks which holds an outdoor summer performance on the Mineral County Fairgrounds.

This coming Tuesday, March 7, a rather unique performance will be free to the public at the LDS Church on Moats Lane in Superior.

“Clarinet and guitar may sound like a strange combination, and you would be right,” explains Jim Goss, Treasurer of MCPAC. “The repertoire for these two instruments is minimal but clarinetist Wesley Ferreira and guitarist Jaxon Williams have rearranged existing music and composed entirely new pieces to make their partnership work for themselves as well as for their audiences.”

Jâca combines classical and world music to bring an adventurous, passionate and completely original musical style to the stage. Dr. Ferreira is originally from Canada but now resides in Fort Collins, Colo. He has a special interest in his Portuguese heritage and includes this influence in his music.

Dr. Williams is based in Los Angeles and also spends part of his time in Spain where he is closer to his love of flamenco music. But there are similarities between them also. Both are educators with classical music chops who enjoy performing nationwide and internationally. O

n their stop to Superior, they will meet with St. Regis students from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., to talk about themselves and the music they play. At 7 p.m. they will perform at the LDS church, with music that fuses their interests in a seamless manner, pleasing to hear and a challenge to pigeonhole into any one genre.

“So even if you don't know your Fado from your Fandango from your Flamenco, you will enjoy the multicultural music that is Jâca,” smiles Goss.

Audiences have said that they breathe new life into the traditional concert experience, ignoring convention and consistently leaving their audiences buzzing.
