Many local teams competed in wrestling tournaments in both Royal and Tri-Cities last week. See below for a recap of how teams fared in the two tournaments, and both team and individual placings.

Hanford Winter Cup

The Maverick boys placed eighth at the Hanford Winter Cup last week, courtesy of seven Maverick wrestlers placing at the tournament. Freshman Ian Garza (106) placed seventh, sophomore Cruz Hernandez (113) placed seventh, sophomore Drayden Gaither (126) placed fifth, freshman Ian Garza (132) placed seventh, junior Dayton Regan (145) placed fifth, senior Joshua Grubb (152) placed fifth and senior Brock Clark (160) placed fifth.

In the girls Hanford Winter Cup, five local schools sent teams to the competition with top-five finishes by Moses Lake and Royal. Moses Lake placed second, Royal placed fifth, Warden placed 12th, Quincy placed 14th and Ephrata placed 18th. 12 local wrestlers finished in the top three of their classes; Moses Lake senior Jhaile De Guzman placed first and Warden junior Alona Castro placed third in the 100 weight class; Moses Lake freshman Elyssa Armendariz (105) placed third; Moses Lake junior Ashley Dayana Naranjo placed first and Warden junior Jada Hernandez placed third in the 115 weight class; Moses Lake freshman Reese Prescott (125) placed first; Quincy junior Michelle Acevedo (130) placed second; Royal sophomore Lauren Jenks (135) placed third; Ephrata junior Kadie Mcmullen (140) placed second; Royal senior Alondra Morales placed first and Moses Lake senior Kathryn Pugh placed third in the 145 weight class; Royal junior Emma Villa (170) placed first.

Royal Boys Christmas Tournament

Seven teams traveled to the Royal Boys Christmas Tournament with Othello being the highest-placing team. The Huskies placed sixth, followed by Quincy tied for seventh, Ephrata placing 11th, Royal placing 13th, Warden placing 14th, Wahluke placing 19th and Moses Lake placing 20th. Nine local wrestlers finished inside the top three of their respective weight classes; Quincy sophomore Saidt Alvarez (113) placed second; Othello junior Alexander Mendez (132) placed first; Ephrata senior Nelson Barragan (145) placed third; Quincy senior Brody Wallace (152) placed second; Ephrata senior Hudson Sager (160) placed first; Othello senior Jaden Perez (170) placed second; Royal senior Kaleb Hernandez (182) placed first; Quincy senior Christian Avila (195) placed third; Quincy senior David Medina (220) placed second.

DAVIS, Calif. – The Cougars men's golf team finished 13th at the 2025 El Macero Classic Sunday. The Cougars shot a final round of 18-over, 306, and, played at the par 72, 7,127-yard El Macero Country Club, according to a statement from Washington State Athletics.

GOODYEAR, ARIZONA – The Eastern Washington university women’s golf team concluded the regular season at the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State. The Eagles finished sixth after shooting 895, according to a release from Eastern Washington Athletics.
