First ag-dedicated imaging satellite launched

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — The first orbital satellite dedicated to agricultural imagining was launched from the SpaceX launch site at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center has lifted off, according to a press release from satellite maker Dragonfly Aerospace.
The press release said the satellite, EOS SAT-1, is the first of seven earth-imagining satellites Dragonfly Aerospace is building for Ukraine-based EOS Data Analytics, which uses images and data obtained from earth orbit to help people better manage land, especially farmland and forests.
“Images obtained from Dragonfly’s EOS SAT-1 will deliver valuable information for harvest monitoring, application mapping, seasonal planning and assessments that analyze information such as soil moisture, yield prediction and biomass levels,” the press release said.
Dragonfly Aerospace specializes in building cameras and small, easily customizable satellite bodies, according to the company’s website.
