LAPWAI — Lakeside boys basketball coach James Twoteeth knew that in order for his team to be in Wednesday’s nonleague game against Lapwai, the Knights were going to have to do something about Lapwai’s Kase Wynott.
“I knew we’d have to hold Kase to 25 points or less to have a chance,” Twoteeth said. “He had 15 points until he scored some late in the fourth to get to 26, but we were right there with them.”
On Wednesday, it was Terrell Ellenwood-Jones, who scored 35 points for the Wildcats, who beat the Knights 89-76 to stretch their win streak to 45 games.
“I think we’re going to get confidence from that game,” Twoteeth said. “They see where they’re at in the state, and our guys are going to get some confidence that they were right with them. We got into a little bit of foul trouble, but they were dumb fouls and we’ll get better from here.”
Brutis SiJohn and Liam Hendrickx scored 18 points each for Lakeside (3-2), which played without Vander Brown, who picked up his fourth foul early in the fourth quarter. Tyson Charley had 20 points for Lakeside.
“Brutis came up big for us tonight,” Twoteeth said. “We’re going to have to figure out how to play without Vander sometimes, because that’s going to happen. But our guys stepped up tonight. Tyson shadowed Kase and did a great job on him all night.”
Ahlius Yearout scored 20 points for Lapwai.
"I thought Lakeside shot the ball really well," Lapwai coach Zachary Eastman said. "They had some players step up and make big shots for them. ... We've literally played every style of basketball you can play against, and it was really good to see that our boys are responding, and this is only going to get us ready for State."

POST FALLS — Wednesday’s game against the Braves was one test that first-year Trojan coach Brian Hall and his players are likely glad they took, and passed, during the holiday break.
Senior forward Capri Sims, named the TimberLion Tournament MVP last week, scored 27 points for the Trojans, who held off the Braves at The Arena.
Brooklynn Brennan, who hit a go-ahead 3-pointer at the third quarter buzzer to give Post Falls a 51-50 lead, finished with 21 points.
“We came out a little slow in the third quarter,” said Hall, whose team trailed 35-34 at halftime. “Brennan hit that 3-pointer and it was a real momentum changer for us. And it was a remarkable game by Sims. She’s a woman among girls out there right now and Central (Washington) is getting a steal with her. It’s nice to have Brennan in the swing of things again.”
Post Falls made 23 of 27 free throws, including 6 of 8 in the fourth quarter.
“These girls have seen and challenged adversity,” Hall said. “We’ve been down in the third and they step up their game and finish strong. Kamiakin is a great team, but the ball bounced our way tonight.”
Post Falls (15-0) hosts Lewiston on Friday.
Nikole Thomas, who signed with Memphis during the early signing period, scored 19 points for Kamiakin (5-2).
