Soap Lake standoff ends without incident

A suspect with a felony warrant barricaded himself for more than two hours in this Soap Lake residence Friday afternoon. The suspect, who was not identified at press time, was taken into custody without incident.

SOAP LAKE — A felony suspect is in custody after a standoff with police in Soap Lake Friday afternoon.
The suspect, who had a felony warrant, fled on foot from a Soap Lake Police officer and ran into a residence in the 300 block of Road 20 Northwest, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. He stayed in the house for at least two hours, Foreman said, while the SLPD called for assistance from the sheriff’s office. Because the residence was close to Soap Lake schools, the schools were put on modified lockdown during the standoff.
“He didn’t want to come out for a long time, and then we were able to coax him out of the house,” Foreman said.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, Foreman said.
Neither the suspect’s name nor what his warrant was for was available Friday.

Valentine’s Day cards flood Brookdale Hearthstone with love
MOSES LAKE — Residents at Brookdale Hearthstone Assisted Living in Moses Lake got Valentine’s Day greetings from across the country last month. “I believe that the only states we have not received (cards from) yet are Vermont and Maine,” Lifestyle Director Imelda Broyles said Feb. 24. “We keep receiving new cards every single day. They have not stopped. My residents are in awe with every single one of the cards that we’ve been receiving.” The Hearts Across America project started as a way for children in school classrooms to exchange Valentine’s Day cards with classes in other states or even countries, but the idea has expanded to senior living facilities, according to the project’s social media.
