Barbara Hampton, 79

Barbara Pearl Wallis Hampton passed away peacefully Dec. 6, 2022, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 79 due to complications from dementia. Barbara was born April 16, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, to Fred and Pearl Wallis. She grew up in Post Falls and Farragut in Idaho and Anchorage and Kodiak in Alaska, and later moved to Abilene, Texas. She had especially fond memories of time living on Kodiak and at Farragut. She loved living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

She married Donald Winfred Hampton on Feb. 2, 1963, in Abilene, Texas. They lived in Alaska, Nebraska and Idaho and enjoyed many adventurous years camping, hunting, hiking, boating and exploring all these areas had to offer. Barbara worked for Southwest Area Training Service training developmentally disabled adults in Nebraska, and later managed the office of Dr. Richard Morris, an orthodontist in Coeur d’Alene. After Don’s death in 1987, she moved to Seattle, Wash., and finished her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Washington. She spent many happy years working as a technical writer for Boeing.

Barbara was active in the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ and in the University Christian Church in Seattle. She was a member of Soroptomist International and served as a board member for the Coeur d’Alene Christian School. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was devoted to her family and her cats. Barbara valued education, and loved traveling, watching football with friends, reading, writing and playing pinochle. She enjoyed welcoming friends into her home for dinner and was an excellent cook.

She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Cox (and husband Bruce); son Wallis Hampton (and wife Monica); grandchildren Erin Cox, Christopher Cox, David Cox, Lucie Cox, Natalie Hampton and Nicole Hampton; sister Freda Coalson; and two nephews and one niece and their children.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Fredrick and Pearl Wallis, husband Donald Hampton, grandson Jake Hampton and brother-in-law Doug Coalson.
