PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Sandpoint's Strock strikes down Lakeland

RATHDRUM — On a night when extraordinary is needed, Lakeland is building toward that moment.

Sandpoint got it from junior guard Aliya Strock on Friday.

Strock had nine points in both the second and third quarter for the Bulldogs, who ran past the Hawks 59-40 in an Inland Empire League game at Hawk Court.

“I really think Sandpoint has something special in Strock,” first-year Lakeland coach Tyrel Derrick said. “She was really the one in the second quarter that broke it open. She pressured our ball handler, forced three steals and I don’t think she broke a sweat. She competes on each play and doesn’t take a play for granted. She just made the right decisions for them.”

Strock finished with 21 points for Sandpoint (9-4, 2-3 IEL).

“Sandpoint, they’re a well coached team,” Derrick said. “They don’t get sped up and panicked. And we’re still trying to get to that point.”

Kenna Simon scored 12 points for Lakeland (7-6, 0-5), which travels to Moscow next Friday.
