PREP WRESTLING: Post Falls, Meridian in near deadlock after first day at Rollie Lane

NAMPA — After the first day of wrestling at the Rollie Lane Invitational, the gap between Meridian and Post Falls is so close, just one match has made the difference.

Meridian leads with 119 points, followed by Post Falls with 118.5.

Rider Seguine (98 pounds), Tyson Barnhart (132), Seth Martin (152), John Rudebaugh (160), Jose Laguna (170), Keanyn DeGroat (182), Gentry Smith (195) and Trevor Miller (220) went unbeaten on the first day for Post Falls.

Also advancing were Timberlake’s Wyatt Carey (98), Lakeland’s Jaren Knopp (106) and Coeur d’Alene’s Dax Larsen (138).

“Dax just wrestled tough all day,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He was getting after people, didn’t make many mistakes and was really solid today.”

In the girls tournament, Abigale Piper (145) of Post Falls and Alyssa Randles (126) and Cara Brown (152) of Coeur d’Alene advanced to the quarterfinals.

“Alyssa and Cara really took care of business today, which was good to see,” Moffat said.

Wrestling resumes today at 8 a.m. PST with the quarterfinals. Semifinals are scheduled for 11 a.m., with the finals at 3 p.m.

Lake City sends three to

quarterfinals

at Classic

SPOKANE VALLEY — Lake City’s Blaine Leonard (138 pounds), Nathan Booth (152) and Garrett Leonard (170) went unbeaten on the first day to advance to the quarterfinals for the Timberwolves at the Pacific Northwest Classic at University High.

Lake City, which had six wrestlers competing, is 18th with 30.5 points.

Brycen Duboise (126) remains in the consolation bracket.

Flathead of Kalispell, Mont., leads with 79 points.

The tournament concludes today.
