Greenchain log plenty of mat time in Mission Valley

The Libby varsity wrestling team had a full weekend of wrestling in Ronan with the Western Montana Duals and Invitational.

The Greenchain placed fourth in the dual tournament on Friday.

Ronan beat Libby in the third place dual, 43-24. Frenchtown was first after beating Columbia Falls, 36-31.

In the third-place match, the Greenchain had four winners.

James Warner pinned Brady Hout in 1:51 at 170 pounds. Matthew Niemi pinned Cole Dalke in 2:50 at 182 pounds. Jace DeShazer pinned Lomar Wandering Medicine in 19 seconds at 205 while Tyler Smith won by forfeit at 285.

In Saturday’s invitational, the Greenchain placed fourth with 157 points. They had a champ with DeShazer claiming first at 205 while Warner placed second at 170.

Riley Orsborn was third at 103 pounds, Zekiah Meyers was fourth at 138, Joey Wise was also fourth at 152, Sami Jocks was fifth at 120 and Marley Erickson was fifth at 132.

DeShazer pinned Hamilton’s Derrick Saltzman in 2:58 while Smith decked Florence’s Arie McLaughlin in 1:21.

Columbia Falls edged Frenchtown for the tournament title as Justin Windauer (160), Winslow Peter (138), Tyler Gilfry (126) and Blaise Cronk (152) were all individual champions.

Thursday at the Polson Mixer, the Greenchain rolled past the host Pirates, 58-15, and Stevensville, 60-16.

Against Stevensville, Libby claimed six forfeit wins. On the mat, Marley Erickson, Niemi, DeShazer and Smith each pinned their opponents.

In the win over the Pirates, Cael Schwindt scored a major decision, while Drake Wofford, Warner, Niemi, Smith, Orsborn and Urijah Bache each won by fall.

DeShazer and Erickson won by fall.
