It was a long week for the Hot Springs boys and girls basketball teams, particularly the boys Savage Heat.
The girls, who beat St. Regis Thursday 52-48, won two of the three games they played. In addition to the road win over St. Regis, the Lady Savage Heat beat Alberton 57-18, then continued their week away from home with a 48-19 loss to Charlo.
The boys, meanwhile, beat Alberton 59-29 Tuesday, fell to St. Regis boys Thursday (51-30), then lost to Charlo 72-17 to make it a 1-2 week.
The Lady Savage Heat opened the week by running to a 13-2 first quarter lead in Alberton, then boosting it to 30-6 by halftime.
They continued their offensive run by outscoring the host team 19-8 in the third quarter and 8-4 in the fourth to wrap up the win early.
After beating St. Regis girls in a down to the wire cliffhanger, the Lady Heat traveled to Charlo to take on the Lady Vikings where they ran into a swarming Charlo defense that limited them to 11 points in the first half and eight in the second.
Charlo opened an early lead and never trailed as they cruised to the win.
The Lady Vikings improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in 14C conference play, while Hot Springs girls fell to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in league games.
The Savage Heat boys opened the week with a relatively easy win over Alberton at home. They powered out to a 24-9 first quarter lead, then eased into halftime ahead 33-16. They wrapped up the win by outscoring Alberton 16-5 in the third quarter as they secured their first conference win of the year.
The Heat are 2-6 overall.
After losing to St. Regis Thursday night, the Heat journeyed to Charlo where the host Vikings built an early 14-6 lead and never trailed after that. By halftime they were up 40-11, then held St. Regis to two points in the third quarter as they coasted to their third league win against no losses. Like the Lady Vikings, the boys are also 5-2 overall.
Senior guard/forward Keaton Piedalue led all scorers with 21 points for Charlo.
This week, both Hot Springs teams will travel to Pablo tonight (Tuesday) for a pair of games against the Two Eagle River Eagles and Lady Eagles.
Hot Springs will also be on the road Saturday night for a pair of games against Superior.
