COLUMBIA BASIN – As the mid-way point of the winter sports season passes on, local teams are ramping up for the final stretch into various postseason tournaments and competitions.

The Moses Lake girls wrestling team has had strong showings in competitions across the state, recently placing third at the Kelso girls tournament where five wrestlers placed individually.

Challenged with a roster full of young talent, the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors have begun the season 8-5 – including a 4-2 record in league play.

The Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School girls basketball team has jumped out to an 11-2 start to the season, winning games by an average of 16.1 points.

Othello boys wrestlers have placed well at tournaments all season, highlighted by a top-ten finish at Tri-State in Idaho and recently placing fourth out of 56 teams at Gut Check last weekend.

After a three-game loss streak during the holidays, the Quincy Jackrabbits have rallied to win 3 of their last four games including an exciting 83-81 come-from-behind win against Chelan last week. Quincy is currently 8-6 on the year.

In their quest to defend their 2021-2022 state championship, the Warden girls basketball team has started the season 9-4 and stands on top of the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (East) with a perfect 4-0 record in league play.

Ahead of a Thursday dual against Grandview, the Ephrata Tigers hold a 4-1 record in duals this season.

With some impressive outings from junior Pavlo Stoyan, the Soap Lake Eagles check in at 6-5 at the midway point of the season, including winning four-straight games from Dec. 15 to Jan. 3.
