MULLAN – After closing its doors in August, the Mullan Public Library is excited to open their doors once again.
However, they will be opening this time with a full library board of trustees, a newly hired Library Director, Debbie Berger, and an assistant librarian Cathie Zingler.
The library features a general fiction section, an area for juvenile and young adult readers, and a more kid-friendly atmosphere for the youngest readers, who can enjoy some puppets and games as they browse the collection of books.
The library also holds a variety of reference materials, including an impressive collection of books related to Idaho and local history, held in a special bookcase dedicated to longtime volunteer Evelyn Smith.
The library also offers books on tape, DVDs, VHS and CDs to check out and computer and internet access are available during library hours.
If you can’t find what you are looking for, don’t fret, as the Mullan library is a part of the Cooperative Information Services (CIN) network. Patrons can use an interlibrary loan to search through different library directories or get assistance from a librarian to place an item and pick it up at their desired library location.
“We would love to see people come in now that we are being opened up. Please, don’t hesitate to visit us,” said Director Berger.
The library is nestled deep in the panhandle of the scenic mountains of North Idaho on the main level of the historic Morning Club building.
The building opened around 1920 and was funded by the Morning Mine operation to help provide for the needs of the mine workers and the community.
The club is a picturesque three-story building and currently houses the library, a bowling alley and a multipurpose room with a stage.
The Mullan Public Library is located at 117 Hunter St. in Mullan, and will be open Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m., Friday from 2-7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Sunday and Monday.
